Beading & Boxing?

A quintessential step in the academic-technique of denture making is “Boxing Impressions.” This step is meticulously carried out with fastidiousness to satisfy a number of philosophical-prosthodontic cravings. The purpose of the technique is to preserve the impressed anatomy by controlling the pouring of artificial stone in the impression with a system of preset wax aqueducts. Here is a popular youtube video from Dr. Satish Alavandar showing the bead and boxing technique. Though I recommend understanding why boxing impressions remains so iconic, and I recommend knowing how to do a bead and boxed impression; I do not recommend the routine use of this lab procedure as more contemporary lab concepts are proving to be just as effective but more efficient, and will largely replace this technique.
